On return to London after a year spent living and teaching English in Chuncheon, South Korea, I missed kimchi. I missed norebangs. I missed trying to decipher Hangul lettering. In fact I missed all things Korean. I had fallen in love with the language, culture, and way of life I had come to know, and longed for it.
Yet before long, I noticed signs of London’s kimchi soul: a quirky boutique store here, a cute cafe there, a hidden-away supermarket elsewhere. I realised that London not only has a Korea Town, mini Korea-town and Korean Cultural centre, but also a huge population of people just as passionate about K-culture as me.
Through Kimchi Soul, I’ll continue to explore London’s Korean influences and connections, keep up to date with people and events, and satisfy the kimchi fever that will always be part of me!
