On return to London after a year spent living and teaching English in Chuncheon, South Korea, I missed kimchi. I missed norebangs. I missed trying to decipher Hangul lettering. In fact I missed all things Korean. I had fallen in love with the language, culture, and way of life I had come to know, and longed for it.

Yet before long, I noticed signs of London’sΒ kimchi soul: a quirky boutique store here, a cute cafe there, a hidden-away supermarket elsewhere. I realised that London not only has a Korea Town, mini Korea-town and Korean Cultural centre, but also a huge population of people just as passionate about K-culture as me.

Through Kimchi Soul, I’ll continue to explore London’s Korean influences andΒ connections, keep up to date with people and events, and satisfy the kimchi fever that will always be part of me!

  9. Sharky Yoon says:

Hello. My name is Sharky Yoon. I came to UK in 2007 to study MSc in Food Management in Surrey Univerity. Now I am working on a project to launch Korean food take-away chain business in London.

The reason why I am writing this is I came to believe you could be a great advisor for me and also a good friend. This morning I read a very interesting article about your Korean culture and food loving story from naver. I am pleased to see a local who loves Korean culture and food in UK. I found that despite the attractive points of Korean foods (Korean foods are healthy, colourful, tasty..I am sure you already know, don’t you?) they are not yet popular to Europeans including British while other asian foods such as Chinese, Japanese and Thai have already become popular foods among British people. I strongly believe that Korean foods have a great potential that British would love. Don’t you think so? ^^

I would be more than happy if you give me heartful advice about Korean food as a local person who has experienced Korean culture and food.

If you are OK, I and my wife Joy would love to invite you for a dinner in some point.

I am living in Raynes park near wimbledon though.

  10. RANG says:

I am so impressed your Korea love.
You make me love my own country more and more.
I am so happy to know you as Korea lover and Vegiterian!

  11. NyNy says:

Awesome blog! Did you write about your experiences in Korea here?

  12. Saya says:

Hi Annie, I’ve just spent the last hour engrossed in your writing and experiences. A longish trip (in search of traditional Korean hanboks in London that aren’t costume pieces -_-) led me here and I don’t even remember which page I landed on. I just wanted to tell you how interesting I found it. I spent a year in Egypt in 2006/7 and despite Korea being totally different, that feeling of the heart, I completely get. You must be a busy person, but if you have time for a conversation, I would love to have one, because there is so much I’m curious about. I’ve left my email address πŸ™‚
